What is your Why?

Hi, I’m so glad you stopped by today. The want or need to start a kitchen garden can be for many and varied reasons.

What is your reason? What is your why? Why do you want to begin your kitchen garden journey?

Do you want a place to escape? Do you need something to do? Or do you simply want the pride that comes with saying ‘I grew this’. It’s powerful, and it’s empowering.

My why started many years ago, growing up listening to my grandmother Jean talk fondly of her father and her upbringing helping out at the Blakey family nursery. My grandfather, Jack Stanley Blakey, was a nurseryman. He grew flowers and vegetables and his three sons and daughter helped. Even my father remembers helping at the market gardens in his youth. It makes me feel proud to share my family history.

My garden is my go to place to find stillness of mind. When my mind overthinks (I have a history of depression and anxiety) my kitchen garden is where I retreat for mindfulness and to feel grounded. What needs more water, sun, food? What needs staking, pulling, turning over? Where am I in the season and what to prepare next?

I am here to help you get started on your kitchen garden. Visit the GROW page to see where I can help you.

I look forward to our journey together.
